A few weeks ago I wrote a post about my favorite models at LEGOLAND® California, which now I need to amend, by adding Harrison, Harry and Hagrid to the list.
Tucked away in the southwest corner of DUPLO® Village is a small retail store called The Studio Shop that boasts LEGO® products from various films such as STAR WARS™, SpongeBob™ Square Pants, Toy Story, CARS and Harry Potter™. From across DUPLO Village, while my kids were squirting each other with water guns, I spotted the massive Hagrid model, standing approximately eight feet tall and just as lovable as he is in the Harry Potter movies (and books of course). His aura transcended the plastic bricks and drew me in to the store; I just had to get a closer look. Then once I was in, I found myself in the middle of a movie-lover’s haven. Creative LEGO play sets, movie character mini-figures and quirky, fun T-shirts. My favorite was the t-shirt with Andy Warholesque images of a LEGO Princess Leia. Darling!
After oohing and aahing over all the merchandise, and trying to figure out which of my kids’ friends had upcoming birthdays, I turned around to see one of the most iconic movie characters of all time: Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Complete with lasso, tattered Fedora hat and heroic hunky-ness, this model is one of the most spot-on replicas in the Park. Ladies, it is definitely worth a trip to the Studio Store to check him out. Who doesn’t need a little Indiana Jones in their life once in a while?
Before you head out of The Studio Store, there is one more model worth posing next to: the beloved Harry Potter. Ever since the release of J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter fantasy novel in 1997, Harry Potter has been a household name. Standing next to this iconic model is like taking in a slice of historical pop culture. I look forward to the day when my kids are old enough to read the books and experience the magical world so many of us have been able to enjoy. Then, I can take them to The Studio Shop to meet Harry in person. Or should I say “in plastic”?
All of that gushing above is to say, if you or your kids are movie lovers, or Indie, Harry or Hagrid fans, don’t pass this star of a store up on your next trip to the Park.
Brick regards,
Model Mom Mary
